Health Committee
Mission: The Health Committee under LILAC is concerned with the unequal access to LEP persons in the areas of hospitals, clinics and all medical concerns.  The committee will seek to insure that the LEP population receive full and equal access to health systems that will improve their quality of life.

Comité de Salud
Misión: El Comité de Salud de LILAC se preocupa por la desigualdad de acceso a hospitales, clínicas y toda preocupación médica a personas que tienen un Proficiente de Inglés Limitado.  El Comité trata de asegurar que las personas LEP reciban acceso completo e igualitario a todos los sistemas de salud que mejoren su calidad de vida.
 

A success story:
Peconic Bay Medical Center has recently amended its policies and procedures to provide better access to language services for LEP patients and their families as a result of advocacy by the Empire Justice Center and a coalition of other organizations.  For more information, see letter below.  You can also contact Linda Hassberg at lhassberg@empirejustice.org

HIV/AIDS Prevention Bilingual Glossary

The HIV Prevention Bilingual Glossary (HPBG) is a collaborative effort to provide linguistic support to individuals and organizations working with Spanish-speaking populations in the U.S.

The terms included here are commonly used in public health and HIV/AIDS prevention in the U.S. You can:
  • Find Spanish equivalents for English words and English equivalents for Spanish words;
  • Rate the translations provided;
  • Use the tag cloud to find commonly searched terms; and
  • Comment on how we can improve the glossary.
